Question: Why do you use cookies?
Answer: Cookies are used throughout the Huntington Archive database so as make your searching and browsing experience easier. They are not used to store any permanent identifying information about you, the user.

Question: How are you using cookies?
Answer: Typically we use a cookie to temporarily identify you as a distinct user of the site. Whenever you conduct a search/browse, we store the results of that search/browse in a cookie for easy retrieval. To allow a history of searches to be available to you, we also store information about previous searches that you have conducted during this session of looking through the Archive.

Question: What if I do not configure my browser to accept cookies from your website?
Answer: If your browser will not accept our cookies, you might find that many features of the website do not work. You will still be able to view the images, but not do much with them. To avail of the 'Save Selected Images' feature and 'Make PowerPoint' feature, you need to be certain your browser is properly configured for cookies to be accepted.

Question: OK, I trust you, but how do I configure my browser to accept your cookies?
Answer: If you have one of the following browsers, please follow the instructions below.

• Mozilla Firefox (1.0 final release and earlier)
  • Go to the "Tools" menu.
  • Select "Options".
  • Select the "Privacy" icon in the left panel.
  • Check the box corresponding to "Allow sites to set cookies".
  • Click "OK" to save changes.
• Netscape 7.1/Mozilla 5.0
  • Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu.
  • Click on the arrow next to "Privacy & Security" in the scrolling window to expand.
  • Under "Privacy & Security", select "Cookies."
  • Select "Enable all cookies".
  • Click "OK".
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+
  • Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  • Click on the "Privacy" tab.
  • Click the "Default" button (or manually slide the bar down to "Medium") under "Settings".
  • Click "OK".
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x
  • Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  • Click on the "Security" tab.
  • Click the "Custom Level" button.
  • Scroll down to the "Cookies" section.
  • To enable:
    • Set "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" to "Enable".
    • Set "Allow per-session cookies" to "Enable".
  • Click "OK".
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x
  • Select "Internet Options" from the View menu.
  • Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  • Scroll down to find "Cookies" within the "Security" section.
  • To enable:
    • Select "Always accept cookies".
  • Click "OK".
• Safari on Macintosh
  • Start Safari, and select the "Safari" menu and choose "Preferences."
  • Choose the "Security" tab.
  • In the "Accept Cookies" section, you have 2 options that will work. You can choose "Always" or "Only from sites you navigate to". Choose which ever you would prefer.
  • Hit the "Close" button.
• Netscape Communicator 4.x
  • Select "Preferences" from the Edit menu.
  • Find the "Cookies" section in the "Advanced" category.
  • To enable:
    • Select "Accept all cookies" (or "Enable all cookies").
  • Click "OK".
